LEGACY CHRISTIAN CHURCH
ALL CHURCH INFORMATIONAL MEETING MINUTES
April 9, 2017
An informational meeting for the congregation of Legacy Christian Church was held at 6pm, Sunday, April 9, 2017. Leading the meeting were members of the Leadership Team: Dave Burchett, Dave Krohn and Duane Rhodebeck; and Steve Widmer from the Management Team. A total of 43 persons were in attendance.
The meeting was opened by Duane Rhodebeck with a prayer.
Dave Burchett read a brief reflection, which introduced the theme of creating stronger teamwork for the future of Legacy.
Steve Widmir gave a brief background of his experience in leadership with RiverGlen Christian Church, and the purpose of the Management Team being to personally support Jerod in the new church plant of Legacy, not to "run" the church. He reiterated the Management Team's encouraging Jerod to take a sabbatical in order to be refreshed from burnout, and to discern God's will for his future.
Steve then addressed the creation of the Legacy Leadership Team. Jerod selected the team and recommended them to the Management Team. Steve expressed total confidence in the team, and stressed that this team would continue in the leadership of Legacy whatever happens in the future regarding Jerod. Pathways for other volunteers to serve in leadership are being designed.
There was no update concerning Jerod or his plans at this time; Steve assured the group that the Legacy congregation would know as soon as the Management Team had any news. The current plan is for Jerod to be back at Legacy on May 7; the Leadership Team is preparing plans either way, whether Jerod resumes his role as pastor or not.
There were then brief introductions of each member of the Leadership Team.
Duane Rhodebeck then reported on the current state of Legacy as follows:
Progress of the Ascend initiative:
Making a Difference:
The people of Legacy have made a difference by partnering with many community groups and ministries – Falls Food Pantry, One Family One Purpose, House of Love, Hope Network, Safe Families, etc.
Dave Krohn then spoke about the overall vision and plans for Legacy's future. While repeating and supporting the mission of "Celebrate, Connect, Contribute," he also pointed out that Legacy will need to adapt to continue this mission.
For Celebrate, some plans are to create a First Impressions team, to elevate and strengthen the children's ministry, provide more engagement through worship. For Connect, continue and strengthen small groups, have retreats, and create a dynamic, flexible model for developing leaders at Legacy. For Contribute, the need to stress the importance of serving; address the gaps in volunteering by mentoring leaders of ministry teams; create accessible "on-ramps" for volunteer engagement. Legacy will also need to create or refine new teams in the areas of operations, marketing and outreach, and more. The Leadership Team is working to have these programs in place as soon as possible.
Dave Burchett then spoke about the priorities the Leadership Team has set for Legacy:
A question and answer period then followed with the following topics addressed:
Duane Rhodebeck then thanked everyone for attending; Steve Widmir closed in prayer and the meeting was adjourned at 7:15pm.
